Garden maintenance is a very important aspect to consider after investing in a professionally landscaped garden.

A professional landscaper has the expertise to shape and maintain your garden in the image it was created. It is very important to let your landscaper know what your garden maintenance requirements are, as they are well qualified to lend advice.

Managing weekly garden maintenance programs for four high-end country estates in Pretoria East for the past few years, We can provide you with a tailor-made garden maintenance plan, designing a custom program that suits the needs of your professionally landscaped garden.

This service option offers a once monthly visit to your garden, giving it the expert care it deserves and does not include lawn mowing, as a lawn needs to be mowed a minimum of once a week during the summer, and a minimum once every two weeks during winter months. We maintain the landscaped area as it is intended, including pruning and shaping of trees, shrubs and perennials. A professional landscaper can diagnose a potential threat to your garden and treat it before it is too late. Fertilization of specific areas will be done at the correct time of year. This option is highly beneficial if you want to get the most out of your garden and grow your landscaping investment.

With this option, we visit your garden once a week. You receive the complete package as mentioned above, and we also include full service of your lawn, including all mowing and trimming, treatments, seeding and fertilization at the right time of year. This option also includes the maintenance of your irrigation system, pool and water features where applicable.

Water Features

Adding a water feature to your garden adds a whole new dimension to your outdoor living.

  • We bring the water to you!

A waterfront property is a highly prized commodity. Without having to move near a lake or ocean TGC landscapers can easily incorporate a water feature into your outdoor living space.

  • Space

Don’t immediately dismiss the idea of including a water feature in your landscape design just because you are pressed for space. Water features can be adapted to fit small spaces, and it is possible to install well-designed pond less water elements that don’t require much area at all. Tucked into an area of your property that previously seemed like wasted space, your water feature will beautify your surroundings and bring you pleasure for years to come.

  • Enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of flowing water

Flowing water blocks out all busy noises from the city life and neighbors, bringing an aesthetic appeal to your professionally landscaped garden.

  • Water features attract natural wildlife

Birds, butterflies, dragonflies and bees, all of which contribute to the natural pollination of your beautifully landscaped garden. In addition, inviting natural wildlife onto your property will provide hours of entertainment and endless educational opportunities for you and your family.

  • De-stress and relax

Relax and feel at peace with your surroundings by adding sound, movement and texture to your landscape design, Water features can be natural and unique, either blending seamlessly into your landscape or used as a focal point.

  • Foster life

In order to survive, all living creatures need water, so you’ll be fostering life in your little corner of the world. The plants included in your landscape design, combined with your unique water feature, will bring your property into harmony with nature around you.

  • Little maintenance

Water features require little maintenance. Unlike swimming pools that are in constant need of cleaning, chemicals and other upkeep, water features supply your garden with texture, natural sounds and visual interest without much effort at all. Call today to see how we can design a water feature that is right for your garden!

Landscaping adds value to your property and enhances the entire look and feel of your home. The key to any landscaping project is in hiring the right people for the job.

Landscaping is widely regarded as one of the projects most likely to turn into a DIY endeavor, and is often the building project with least amount of budget. However, landscaping plays one of the biggest roles in the overall appearance and value of your home or property.

South African home owners would rather spend R200 000 + on a kitchen than R50 000 on their garden, not realizing that landscaping provides much more return value when it comes to selling your property.

In 2014, TCG assisted a well-established Real Estate agency in Pretoria East with two gardens on properties that they had struggled to sell. The first property sold within a month after completion of our landscaping project, and the second just five weeks after completion.

Research shows that a property with a professionally landscaped garden will often sell for six to twelve percent more than comparable homes without landscaped gardens. Real Estate Agents also agree that a landscaped home adds value, virtually all in concurrence that the presence of landscaping causes most homes to sell more quickly.

It is imperative that you seek out the experience and knowledge of a professional, qualified landscaper, whether you are creating a new garden from scratch or revamping your existing garden. This will not only give your property the makeover it deserves, but it will also save you money because we always do it right the first time.

There is so much more to landscaping than just installing random plants that we like the look of and hoping for the best. Sun, shade, size constraints, water requirements and seasonal appearances are just some of the factors to consider when designing a garden. A professional TGC landscaper will take all of these aspects into consideration when designing the garden of your dreams.

We have expertise in all sizes and styles of gardens, and can help you decide what is right for your property. For lasting beauty, for added value, for your absolute delight, we specialize in:

  • Modern Gardens
  • Tropical Gardens
  • Formal Gardens
  • Indigenous Gardens
  • Shade Gardens
  • Vertical Gardens
  • Japanese Gardens
  • Country Gardens
  • Instant Lawns

In calculating what to budget for your landscaping project, surveys suggest that spending five percent of your property value on a professionally landscaped garden will add an additional fifteen to twenty percent to the appraised value of the property. Our experience tells us that spending an average of ten percent of your home’s total value is optimal, and will maximize the value you will gain.

This does not necessarily mean that you need to spend ten percent of your property value. In fact, most of our clients spend between five and eight percent, and still gain great value and enjoyment from their revitalized outdoor living space.

  • How do I get started?
  • Easy! First, contact us and make an appointment for one of our landscapers to come to your property for a site visit. Be prepared in the following areas: make sure you know what areas you want landscaped, if it is not the entire property. Knowing how much you are willing to spend is critical, as this allows the landscaper to properly compensate. After the site visit, the landscaper will let you know when your proposal will be ready. The duration will depend on your requirements, such as needs for plans drawn up, and the size of your property. After the proposal has been delivered, we work with you to you make any necessary changes until you are happy. After that, your project will commence and you will be enjoying your new garden soon!

  • Will you understand my requirements and style, and apply it to my garden?
  • Our landscapers are experienced in every field and style of landscaping. We will take all your requirements and ideas into consideration when preparing your design to make sure it as unique and as right for you as possible.

  • Will you stay within my budget?
  • Definitely, your quotation will always match your budget, provided that your budget is in range with the size of your garden and your requirements and expectations. We will go over every detail with you to make sure you understand exactly what can and will be done.

  • Is my project too small or too big?
  • No project is too small or too big. Each project will be handled with the same care and passion from project start up through completion.

  • Can you use some of my existing plants and material in my garden?
  • You bet! Your landscaper will advise you on which plants can be replanted and which ones cannot.

  • When is the best time for landscaping?
  • Landscaping can be done at any time, throughout the year. There is no specific time or season that is best for landscaping. Every season has its own advantages and disadvantages. Landscaping in the summer is excellent for new growth, but transplanting and planting of fragile plants in high temperatures will lead to unnecessary stress which will set back the growth of the plant. Landscaping in the winter is excellent for your new garden to get settled in and establish itself, as a garden landscaped during the winter months outperforms a garden landscaped in spring. There is always the possibility that frost may damage your more fragile plants, however, our landscapers will do their utmost to ensure that you reap only the best of what each season provides.

  • When is the best time to plant new trees and or plants?
  • New plants and trees can be planted right through the year, however different seasons have different impacts on certain plants. During the winter it’s best for plant roots to develop and during summer foliage and flowers will have a better development phase. There is thus no season that is worse than the other, each has its own benefits.

  • How long will a landscaped garden last?
  • The average lifespan of a garden is between seven to ten years, depending on what type of garden you have and how much care and time you put into it. When you reach the seven to ten year barrier, it is best to contact your landscaper to do an assessment of your garden to see where it will be advantageous to replace plants or make some changes.

  • How often should I water my new garden and when?
  • A newly landscaped garden should be watered at least every second day depending on the season and type of garden. An established garden can be watered every second day in summer and every third day during winter. An automated irrigation system will provide your garden with the accurate amount of water at the best time of the day.

  • When is the best time to fertilize my new garden?
  • There is no need to fertilize your newly installed garden. During the installation process your garden will receive the correct amount of fertilizer to last for the upcoming growing season. Thereafter, it’s best to fertilize your garden annually, and the end of winter is generally considered to be the best time. This will give your garden the boost it needs to perform throughout the growing season.

  • Can I use compost on my lawn to make it green?
  • The best way to feed your lawn is to use a good organic fertilizer as well as a thin layer of lawn dressing which is comprised of fine milled compost mixed with river sand and never applied thicker than the blades of grass. This should all be followed by plenty of water to ensure fast and healthy growth. Applying only compost will have a negative effect to your lawn as it will burn your lawn rather than improving its condition.

  • Why does my lawn have brown/dead patches?
  • This could be due to a range of circumstances, time of year, various pests like lawn cricket or root feeding worms and fungal infections.

  • How often should I mow my lawn?
  • Depending on the type of lawnmower you use and the type of lawn you have. Fast growing and very healthy lawns need to be moved once to twice a week in summer. In winter this can be trimmed down to once every two to three weeks, depending on the growth and type.

  • Can you visit my new garden afterwards to see if I am maintaining it right?
  • Yes, we do have a wide range of maintenance packages and we can compile a package to suit your specific needs.

  • Is it better to have an irrigation system installed opposed to manual watering?
  • Yes, an automated irrigation system installed by us is specifically designed to give maximum coverage of your garden. It is also set to give the perfect amount of water at the best time of day. Manually watering your garden can result in over or under watering which will result in unnecessary damage to your garden.

  • How do I ensure all my plants become well established?
  • Any new and established garden needs regular fertilizer and sufficient water to become well established.

  • When is the best time to have an irrigation system installed?
  • An irrigation system is best to install before your landscaping is done, this limits unnecessary damage to your plants once they have settled.

  • Is it possible to have my irrigation stay off when it rains without me having to manually turn it off?
  • Yes, the Hunter systems we install do have the option to be fitted with rain sensors. Ensuring you save money on water when it’s raining as well as not wasting water.

  • When is the best time to prune my roses?
  • The best time usually is right after winter say July/ August, doing so you provide the plant with sufficient time to make healthy new growth and to look great the upcoming summer!

  • When is the best time to plant new trees and or plants?
  • New plants and trees can be planted right through the year, however different seasons have different impacts on certain plants. During the winter its best for plant roots to develop and during summer foliage and flowers will have a better development phase. There is thus no season that is worse than the other, each has its own benefits.

  • Which grass grows best in shade areas?
  • LM and All-seasons lawn work best in shady areas, however they still need sunlight to grow properly and give proper coverage.

  • Which are the best plants to plant for a water wise garden?
  • Indigenous plants is usually the best choice, these will reward you with beautiful flowers as well as birds, bees and butterflies. Succulents is also a great choice for a water wise garden as they require a minimum amount of water, these can be beautifully incorporated in a natural rock garden.
